Guilty Pleasures- A Confession

My secret obsession is the art of thrift shopping... garage sales... and Buy/Sell/Trade websites.  I love a bargain... and I love the thrill of the hunt.  Finding that one item that is begging for a makeover.. or the perfect piece to compliment that open space on the wall.... or a new outfit for a day at the parks. Who knows what you will find??

Garage Sales are the BEST!   Here is where you get to practice "The Art of Negotiation"........   I love it...... Hellllloooo.. Realtor here!  Anyone that has had a yard sale knows....the price written on the items is not the final price... but your job as the consumer is to get the lowest price possible and the seller wants the highest price possible...... sound familiar?

My husband and I will often empty out the trunk of the car... to make room for the possible treasures... throw on a ball cap....... grab the coffee to go...... and head out early to make a day of it.  It is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors... more often than not we end up standing and chatting... getting to know the person who lives in your neighborhood is VERY important.  It develops a sense of community.  The next time you drive by their home and they are outside....... you will wave... because you know them and they know you.  

Look beyond the scratches and dents........ and imagine the restored product...... give it new life. Re-purpose an old bucket into a cute fountain for your garden... Save that old wooden frame with a fresh coat of paint and a piece of cork board...... TA-DA you now have a bulletin board for above your desk... or your kids fine art pieces from school.   Not to mention the feeling of accomplishment and pride when you see the final product..... and can share that work with friends and family when they come to visit.  

Get out there people! You never know where your adventures will take you........
